There came a time when the purple trees bloomed,
And the air all around was sweet and perfumed.
A time that was simple as the waves on the shore,
They come and they go as they have long before.
These trees were not trees of any sort you've known,
But more of a goddess dancing high atop her throne.
Wise and strong with beauty pure and frail,
I climbed her limbs and asked her of her tale:
Oh Jacaranda, won't you tell me the story of love?
Of the green grass roots and the blue sky above.
Oh Jacaranda, tell me of the romancing breeze,
Of your purple flowers and your dancing leaves.
Oh Jacaranda, your beauty mesmerizes me,
Tell me the secrets of life, let me sit upon your knee.
Oh Jacaranda, teach me what happiness is made of,
I'm twirling in your majick, I'm falling in love.
There came a time, however, when her flowers began to fall,
And her radiance, somehow, seemed a bit less tall.
She told me of the beginning, the present, and the end,
She taught me love was real, and not just pretend.
She said, "I love showing you how happy you can be,
I must go now, but I'll be back next Spring."
And she said, "don't forget the majick in me,
don't forget the romance of the purple trees."
Oh Jacranda, I promise I'll be waiting for you,
In the sun of the season I'll watch your flowers grow new.
Oh Jacaranda, I'll have more to ask you than before,
And I'll gaze up at you from your velvet lavender floor.
And so she began to fade, and her limbs became bare,
But never second guess, her beauty was still there.
So I wait through the seasons for her to come back,
From sunrise in the morning to when the day turns black.
